And so to day 5.... I cannot believe how quickly the time has gone... I know we haven't stopped long enough to draw breath but already it's over a week since we left Bris Vegas.... Saturday dawned wet and grey for a change, but a visit from a squirrel was cheerful, a walk to Tarvin Village for breakfast and then sort our plans for the day... Off to
Liverpool with K's family, it has been years and years since we last went....

Liverpool, on the banks of The Mersey, home of two football teams, one good (
Liverpool FC) and one second rate (
Everton FC),
The Kop and their signature tune "
You'll Never Walk Alone", so good it's been stolen time and time again and home to
The Grand National, one of the worlds most famous and dangerous horse races and it's most famous and popular 3 time winner
Red Rum and no, I didn't bet on him but I know a lot of people who did!

Home too of
The Beatles,
Cilla Black and 'scouse' a local stew, as distinct from Scousers, the natives. Its musical history is second to none and Liverpool holds the world record as the city who's offspring produced more Number One singles than any other. Most cities are satisfied with just one cathedral, but not Liverpool which, as sung by The Beatles, has "one to spare"... one is known locally as "
Paddy's Wigwam".

Famous for its humour and ability to laugh in the face of adversity and if you haven't seen
Shirley Valentine and
Educating Rita, you are missing out, at least check them out on YouTube! Hilarious!
A historic port, the registration port of
The Titanic (who hasnt seen the film!) and making a massive contribution to the success of Great Britain throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and the Port of Liverpool also played a less than desirable role in the history of the slave trade.

Liverpool is rich with history and I am proud to say my own family origins are deeply rooted in this unique culture.
