Day 3..... Wednesday.....

As expected, yesterday, The Boathouse at Parkgate was great fun. The weather was excellent, couldn't have been better and by the time we got back there was barely enough energy to flake out on the couch before bed!

K tried to suggest the several bottles of wine his sisters and I shared caused the energy underload, but I think it must have been the jet lag having a last little flutter or maybe the sea air or just maybe, too much sun! Hmmmm leave it to you to decide....

While we didn't get much further than the pub and the view over North Wales, Parkgate is a great little spot with a surprising history. Not only does it have a fabulous ice cream shop, (rumoured to be supplier to The Beatles, Paul McCartney no less) but although marshland now, it was one a busy Maritime Port, home to Lady Hamilton, mistress of Lord Horatio Nelson in the 1700's.... What a claim to fame!

I wonder how different The Wirral would be today if the River Dee hadn't silted up, redirecting traffic to the now famous River Mersey and Liverpool? Jerry Marsden's "Ferry Cross The Mersey" wouldn't have quite the same ring if it had been "Ferry Cross The Dee" and Liverpool might have had to await the birth of The Beatles before its own claim to fame.

Twice a year the tide still comes in sending the abundant wildlife scurrying for higher ground and attracting crowds of the human variety!

But back to lunch..... You know that annoying noisy family group you always end up next going the restaurant? I am happy to say, that was us! K loved it, ha ha! He so loves being centre of attention....

Conversation topics included "if you could invite anybody for dinner, dead or alive, real or animated, who would it be?" (yes, my favorite interview question) most original and best answer award went to Sister X for "God"! We the explored which superpowers we would choose if we had one and on to "why be a vegan?". I am still not convinced, the argument that the poor hens are not allowed to roam freely to produce eggs didn't really cut it for me. We are all caged to earn our daily corn to some extent!

It was around the time of the third bottle where the conversation took a different turn as we moved into discussions on the impact of the GFC on the quality of bathroom tissue!!

..... And so today... Well, the weather.... Taken a bit of a dive unfortunately.... Woke to the pitter patter of tiny raindrops on the window. This morning, we are thinking a visit to Marks and Sparks, apparently the largest in the country so here's hoping I can find a few bits and bobs..... And later some more family visiting for both of us today. West Kirby first with K's sisters for the afternoon and dinner with my sister tonight..... which reminds me, I promised to pick up the wine!
