Farewell and .... Last Chance For A Catch Up
It's been a busy couple of days so it's time for a catch up.... Wednesday evening after Conway was quite sad, saying farewell to three of K's sisters.... Off to the pub for a change and oh goodie... A pub quiz... We put in a good effort scoring 22.5, not bad given we weren't really trying.... Out of how many? Well that's not the point really is it?
A few tears and sad farewells.....
I cannot believe how fast the time has gone..... It seems like only a few days since we were scrabbling round for a cup of coffee....
And so to Thursday.....

Liverpool!
As expected Liverpool was an experience..... We headed over on the train with Jack, Chris and Adrian, meeting up with Thomas at The Museum of Liverpool. We did a quick tour of the museum first
.... pausing as Thomas taught the locals how to operate heavy machinery, then on to Albert Dock a popular tourist spot these days, with a great view of the Royal Liver Building, supporting the very famous Liver Birds as they watch over the people of Liverpool. The Liver Birds was also the title of a popular and very funny TV sitcom in the 70's, also set in Liverpool.
We were also reminded why it's not a good idea to follow Uni students suggestions for lunch and a decent pint! And how "just over there" equates to the equivalent of a half marathon!
Can't believe how grown up they all are.... Last time here they were teenagers and this time they were all grown up! Thomas is a designer for computer games and Adrian studying for his Physics Ph.D at CERN of all places! Both look great on the resume! Other nephews include two aspiring thespians and although we saw Darren and Karl on Tuesday we won't have chance to catch up with the remaining two this time around... Maybe next time.....
And so back to the train and a farewell to Chris and Thomas..... Great to see them but until next time, Au revoir!!
Oh before we say farewell to Chris... Here is one last moment of childhood memories.... As little people, Chris and K used to go tadpoling at the nearby Figure 8... Much lemonade would be consumed until the inevitable happened and Chris knew it was no good.... So she would call out to big brother K... "Its happened again... I've peed in me wellies" and like all good big brothers, what else could he do but empty them out for her! Before she squelched home in her wet wellies.... Now that is what I call a devoted big brother! What more could a girl want?

For us, it was back to Tarvin and drinks with our hosts, Jo and Peter at the cottage!

Day 5..... Saturday.....

A historic port, the registration port of The Titanic (who hasnt seen the film!) and making a massive contribution to the success of Great Britain throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and the Port of Liverpool also played a less than desirable role in the history of the slave trade.

It's a conspiracy.....
Day started with a visit to the largest Marks and Sparks in the country! Shopping really isn't my thing but we did manage to pick up some very nice French Chablis! Sampling generously as I write!!
Then off to Pat's with Sister X and Chris and I swear it was a conspiracy! To set the scene, K loves to walk, I hate walking. I hate the cold...... Here we are with K and THREE of his sisters.... What shall we do? A nice walk along the front at West Kirby? You are kidding right? It's cold! Looks like it might rain... Forecast says rain...? Ermmmm......kidding, yeh? Yeh?
No, apparently not....
Sure, lovely walk, I can no longer hear in my left ear and I have restored British coloring.... Red and wind burnt.... And I quote "bracing" was more than a slight understatement ........

........ I don't care what anybody says or who's feelings I hurt, I would have drawn the line at crossing the sands to Hilbre Island! I'm too young to drown....Viewable in the distance to my left....
For the record, the wind surfer was
traveling at about 250 KPH!
On the plus side, it was fascinating hearing Chris reminisce about her "big brother". Only a year apart, they toddled to primary school together and Chris recalled one wintry snowy day when she kept falling over and K "put on his pumps, hoisted her on his back and carried her through the snow...". K felt this wasn't such a challenge because "as a 6 year old" he "often carried half a hundred weight of hen food across the yard! Not just one bag at a time, but TWO!"
.... Yes dear.....
Then there was the time he saved Chris from a pack of wild dogs at the beach... She dropped her pumps in fright and not only did K fight off the rabid pack single handed, but he actually went back and got her pumps!!!
Big brothers eh?

Day 3..... Wednesday.....

K tried to suggest the several bottles of wine his sisters and I shared caused the energy underload, but I think it must have been the jet lag having a last little flutter or maybe the sea air or just maybe, too much sun! Hmmmm leave it to you to decide....

I wonder how different The Wirral would be today if the River Dee hadn't silted up, redirecting traffic to the now famous River Mersey and Liverpool? Jerry Marsden's "Ferry Cross The Mersey" wouldn't have quite the same ring if it had been "Ferry Cross The Dee" and Liverpool might have had to await the birth of The Beatles before its own claim to fame.

But back to lunch..... You know that annoying noisy family group you always end up next going the restaurant? I am happy to say, that was us! K loved it, ha ha! He so loves being centre of attention....

It was around the time of the third bottle where the conversation took a different turn as we moved into discussions on the impact of the GFC on the quality of bathroom tissue!!
..... And so today... Well, the weather.... Taken a bit of a dive unfortunately.... Woke to the pitter patter of tiny raindrops on the window. This morning, we are thinking a visit to Marks and Sparks, apparently the largest in the country so here's hoping I can find a few bits and bobs..... And later some more family visiting for both of us today. West Kirby first with K's sisters for the afternoon and dinner with my sister tonight..... which reminds me, I promised to pick up the wine!

Day 2..... Tuesday......

Off to The Boathouse at Parkgate today for K's family lunch. All four sisters and a couple of nephews for good measure, looking forward to it, will be fun!
PS: After years in Queensland and early mornings we forgot people start later here so apologies to those we are waking up early!!!
Bring your own coffee...
I love family! We arrived at Sister X's (who wishes to remain anonymous) to a family welcome .... Its been six years so understandably a little emotional........ Did you get my message? Errrrr yeh?.... "Ok".... "No, the next one.... Can u bring coffee an milk, not been to shops yet?" ... Ermmmm nope sorry missed that one.... Ha ha... Love it!!! BYO coffee!!!
Off to New Brighton and The Seaside Cafe and brekkie, WITH coffee, followed by a brisk walk in the freezing cold, warmed up nicely, then off to Jack's.
Couple of hours with Jack and Sister X then we all cracked... Off to the local pub!!!
Still freezin! Sunny but cold.....
Lots of laughs (and I disagree Jack, K and I are nothing like those 2 old guys on the Muppets balcony!!!) ...... And wrap it up by 6, drop Sister X back at home, quick hello to Chris who looks great despite driving 6 hours from Fife!!
...... Then off down the A41 to drop in on Joyce and Bill, with the added bonus of seeing Carol!! My Dad's two Sisters!! Many email exchanges but its been around 16 years since we were in the same place at the same time. Would have been lovely to see Angela and/or Stuart (cousins) but not this time it seems! Maybe next time...

Day 1 - morning....
We were asleep by 10:30 last night, a bit of jet lag perhaps and I couldn't face a single glass of wine even to celebrate! Perhaps cos it was technically only 5am in the morning and despite what my friends would have you believe, I drink rarely. Never more than once every 24 hours....
..... Oh....And Toni, you misunderstand, WE didn't drink the plane dry 2.5 hours in, there would have been plenty for us, it was that couple across the aisle! They couldn't half shift it! NOT that I am judging of course but I thought of having a quiet word with the crew.
So today! It is a beautiful sunny morning, forecast to be 22C and fingers crossed, one layer of jumpers and 3 t-shirts should do it.
OOPS! Was just got spotted in my jim jams in the garden taking that shot for you, bit of a shock for our neighbor, I haven't any make up on yet either! Hope he recovers soon.... He looked like he was perking up by the time the ambo's arrived!
So what's for today? K's sisters for most of it. They have taken time off work and traveled from the far corners of the earth to congregate locally. Well fortunately three of them live just up the road but Chris is traveling from Scotland... Talking of Scotland, you might be wondering why I am not seeing my Mum yet? Well the thing with surprising people is they have lives. They make plans, my Mum has traveled TO Scotland for a mini break, thereby ensuring the balance of the planet is retained by offsetting Chris traveling FROM Scotland! All is not lost though, the normal balance is restored on Thursday.
So it's 7am here and looking forward to a few reunions and a great day.....
PS: I can confirm, the UK has changed drastically, we had a Sunday roast at the local pub yesterday and discovered the pub is closed 3 days per week! Wot the?
PPS: My team did an awesome job yesterday! I am not working but can't resist a little mention - check out Lion King Packages on Wotif.com!! Well done guys, I am proud of you!!
